The Book Society, formerly the Society of Bookmen, is a club for professionals in the book trade, publishers, booksellers, literary agents, librarians and authors. Membership is exclusively by invitation from the Society’s committee.
The Book Society meets eight times a year at the Savile Club. At each dinner a speaker is invited to address the Society. The Society’s purpose is to encourage contacts and understanding between the various elements that make up the book trade.
Sadly we are currently unable to hold our normal programme of dinners and events, due to Covid-19 restrictions. We like everyone are monitoring events closely and we’ll re-institute a normal schedule as soon as is practically and safely possible.
2021 membership subscriptions
As notified by our Chair, Michael Bhaskar, the Society is moving to a reduced membership fee for 2021, which is the minimum we think the Society can remain viable whilst maintaining our usual charitable commitments. The annual membership fee for 2021 is £27.50 (50% of the usual fee of £55.00).
Update 31.12.2020: Please don’t attempt to make payment for 2021 until you hear from Jo Dawson. The website is experiencing some technical problems and it is not possible to process payments at this time.
Any queries, please contact the administrator Jo Dawson.
Members will be alerted by email when booking for each dinner is open.
