The Book Society, formerly the Society of Bookmen, is a club for professionals in the book trade, publishers, booksellers, literary agents, librarians and authors. Membership is exclusively by invitation from the Society’s committee.
The Book Society meets eight times a year at the Savile Club. At each dinner a speaker is invited to address the Society. The Society’s purpose is to encourage contacts and understanding between the various elements that make up the book trade.

The Savile Club
Nic Bottomley, a former derivatives lawyer, is the co-founder of Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights, an independent bookshop in Bath, which opened in 2006. Mr B’s Emporium has twice been named the UK’s Independent Bookshop of the Year and was once named one of the ten best bookshops in the world by The Guardian.
